Short-term support, helping you access information and make decisions about matters, which affect your quality of life.
To provide emotional and/or practical support.
To listen, encourage and empower members.
To work in partnership with members, speaking on their behalf when/where appropriate.
To assist members in making informed choices and decisions about matters, which affect them.
To act independently from other services focussing on the interests of the member.

By providing trained volunteer advocates to work with members on short-term basis.
Following an enquiry, the co-ordinator will visit the member to assess eligibility and identify whether Oshwal Elderly Welfare Association can provide the support that is needed.
If appropriate, a volunteer advocate will be introduced to the member to assist.

Members must be over 50.
Members must have an understanding of what advocacy means and want to be supported by the services.
Members who have no one to act independently on their behalf.
Members who have issues that cannot readily dealt with other agencies.

Whilst Oshwal Elderly Welfare Association is aware of many needs of older people within the community, we are unable to act as advocates for certain member groups over the age of 60. In such circumstances, we will refer the member to other appropriate organisations.

We do not give advice.
We are not able to provide long-term advocacy.
We are not experts.
