The year shows the launch of Asian Cancer Support Group in South London in January, which has been the highlight, and with many developments and much expansion.
In total, Oshwal Elderly Welfare Association has assisted more than 178 members and/or their Carers and/or relatives during the year.

We lost our dear Secretary, Mr Mansukhlal Meghji Haria in July 2005 who had severed us since the formation of the Association.

The Information and Advise
More than 150 Members were provided with information and advice over telephone on individual basis on various issues ranging from obtaining welfare benefits and health care to ways of securing accommodation in Social care homes.

Benefits
2005 was year for the Benefits Project. The project has assisted over 68 members to claim benefits. Between 36 and 40 home visits for year were made assisting members to complete benefit forms.

Health
Launch of an Asian Cancer Support Group in South London in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Relief took place in January. 9 Support Group meetings were held for the year 2005. Average attendance of 18 members was recorded. We have Tarlika from Butterfly Centre of Epson Hospital and Damyanti Patel from Macmillan Cancer Relief, who with 6 volunteers are coordinating the project. Special thanks goes to Mrs Nayana J Shah Mrs Varsha V Shah for handling day-to-day running of South London Support Group.

North London Group had 10 Meetings with average attendance of 11 members. Varity of activities were arranged with speaker coming from different fields. Thanks go to Mrs Suryaben Shantilal Shah and Trupti Morzaria for handling the North London Group.

We also provided Budding service to 9 members over the year, and also sign posted to different services to over 18 members who had cancer.

Luncheon Club
The Association runs a Luncheon Club once a week in Croydon and once every 8-to10 weeks in Harrow. This club has being very successful due to the dedication of the volunteers and also has been the meeting point for many members.

The Social Services department of Croydon council, supports the Luncheon Club in Croydon and from whom a Luncheon subsidy of £3292.50 was received for year 2005,

Holidays
In year 2005, Oshwal Elderly Welfare Association organised overseas holiday for 30 members to South Africa & Mauritius for 18 days All participants had a wonderful time.

Membership
In last Annual General Meeting, the Members approved the increase of annual membership fee to £5.00 per year, payable for 4 years together.
In August, the Association kept a stall at Oshwal Centre Potter Bar for 8 days for recruitment of new members and also to promote the Association in Oshwal Community. For the year 261 new members were recruited.

We have approximately 49 Volunteers working in different projects. Oshwal Elderly Welfare Association is entirely run by volunteers and would not be able to provide such high standard of service without their dedication and support. We have the equivalent of 4 full time members of staff in volunteering hours. On behalf of all the members and Executive Committee, I would like to thank the volunteers for their invaluable input.

Finally, I would like to thank all the members for supporting the Association’s activities in such large numbers. The committee is inspired by your support.

Fund Raising
Mehfil Night at Harrow Leisure Centre was held in partnership with Vision Charitable Trust in November. Mehfil Night was a great success for both the charities where total sum of
£ 4000.00 was raised.

In December, Dal Roti Night was arranged for fund raising where £580.00 raised for the Asian Caner Support Group.
